What Xtream Codes are and why every IPTV provider hands them out
Xtream Codes was originally a piece of panel software written by a Greek developer team in 2014-15. The company that operated it was shut down by Italian authorities in 2019 for allegedly facilitating piracy, but the URL scheme they pioneered survived. Today, every IPTV-management panel — Smartstream, IBO Panel, XUI.one, XStreamUI and a dozen others — implements the same URL scheme and advertises itself as "Xtream Codes compatible." That's why your IPTV provider sends you four credentials and expects you to know what to do with them: the four credentials are a Xtream Codes login.
The four credentials map to a standard URL: http://server:port/get.php?username=USER&password=PASS&type=m3u_plus&output=ts. That URL, when hit by any IPTV player, returns a fully-populated M3U Plus playlist with every channel in your subscription, properly grouped, with logos and EPG-matching IDs. What are Xtream Codes?
Xtream Codes was the name of a Greek-developed IPTV-management panel software that became the industry default for IPTV resellers starting around 2015. Are my Xtream Codes credentials sent to any server?
No — and you can verify this. Open Chrome DevTools (F12), go to the Network tab, click Clear, then type your credentials into the form. Watch the Network tab. Zero requests fire while you type, and zero requests fire when the M3U URL appears in the output. Everything is plain JavaScript string concatenation in your own browser. The page itself loaded over HTTPS once, then runs entirely client-side after that.
What format should I pick — M3U Plus TS, M3U Plus HLS or legacy M3U?
M3U Plus TS is the right answer for 95% of users. It works in VLC, TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, IBO Player and every other mainstream IPTV app. Pick M3U Plus HLS (.m3u8 output) only on Apple devices that route through iPlayTV or GSE Smart IPTV — Apple's native HLS decoder slightly outperforms its MPEG-TS decoder. Pick legacy M3U only if you have an old player that explicitly refuses M3U Plus.
My host field has https:// at the start — does that matter?
Yes — it tells the tool whether to build http:// or https:// URLs. If your provider uses port 443, the scheme is forced to https://. If they use 80, it's http://. For other ports (8080, 25461, etc.), the tool follows whatever scheme is on the original input. You can also paste your provider's full login URL into the host field and the tool will auto-extract the hostname, port, username and password — useful when your provider emailed you a long URL and you'd rather not break it apart manually.
How do I add the M3U URL to TiviMate?
Open TiviMate → Settings → Playlists → Add Playlist → M3U Playlist → Add URL. Paste the M3U URL the converter generated. Give it a name. Tap Process. TiviMate downloads the playlist (takes 5-30 seconds on a 5,000-channel list) and the channel list appears. If you want EPG, copy the EPG XMLTV URL from the converter too, paste it in Settings → EPG → Add EPG Source.
How do I add the M3U URL to VLC?
On desktop: VLC → Media menu → Open Network Stream → paste the M3U URL → Play. VLC loads the playlist and you can navigate channels through View → Playlist. Note that VLC is a single-channel-at-a-time player; for the IPTV experience with a channel guide, EPG and Up/Down channel switching, use TiviMate (Android-based) or IBO Player (Smart TVs) instead.
What's the Player API URL for?
The Player API is a JSON interface exposed by every Xtream Codes-compatible panel. It returns categories, channel lists, VOD content and EPG data as JSON objects. End users don't need it — IPTV apps with native Xtream support consume it automatically. Developers and power users use it to write custom integrations: pulling the full channel list into a spreadsheet, building a custom EPG aggregator, automating playlist refresh, that kind of thing. If you're just trying to watch TV, ignore the Player API URL; use the M3U URL.
My credentials work in the converter but the M3U URL gives me a 401 error in VLC. What's wrong?
Three likely causes. (1) Your subscription expired — the credentials still resolve but the M3U endpoint returns 401. Renew via your provider panel. (2) Your provider rate-limits the number of simultaneous connections per account and you're already at the cap (someone else is using the same account on another device). Disconnect the other device. (3) Special characters in your password aren't URL-encoded correctly somewhere in the chain. The converter URL-encodes them; try the auto-generated URL exactly as-is without copying just the username/password parts.
Can I get the EPG (electronic program guide) too?
